EA Cuts Jobs Again as $55B Saudi Acquisition Closes

▸ THE LEAD

Fresh layoffs hit EA's US and India offices days before a $55 billion acquisition by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is set to close.

Electronic Arts has quietly laid off staff across customer support, IT, and recruitment in the US and India — the company's third distinct round of cuts in 2026. The timing is conspicuous: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund is reportedly set to close its $55 billion acquisition of EA around June 30. Battlefield Studios lost staff earlier this year despite Battlefield 6 being the year's best-selling game, which made this latest round harder to explain away as pure restructuring. A company acquired at that valuation should, in theory, be expanding headcount or at least holding steady. Instead it's shedding the departments that support and hire people, right before a new owner takes the wheel. Whether PIF intends to rebuild or keep trimming is the open question, and the people answering it first will be the ones still on payroll.
